It can be very exciting, moving into a new place. At the same time, this whole process can be a bit daunting as well. No matter how excited you might be about this move, for example, it is still going to be stressful and draining. And regardless of the time you have or the ASAP Moving distance you must travel, there are lots of things you need to do to prepare for such a big life change.
CHANGE YOUR ADDRESS
It is very easy to overlook this until after you have moved but remember to change your
address at some point before you make the move. You have to time this just right, though, as you want to make sure you are still receiving important mail at home before you leave but you also need to ensure that you will continue getting this mail once you move. Indeed, it is quite a balancing act. Here’s a hint: fill out a mail forwarding card with your post office about two weeks before you move. Once they process it—within a few days—your mail will start showing up at your new place; and that should give you a little more time to officially change your address.
RESEARCH A MOVING COMPANY
Even if you think you don’t want to use a moving company—maybe you think it is too expensive—do some research. The information you learn will gain might just make you realize that the price is worth it since it could save you a lot of stress in the long run. But make sure to also research thoroughly based on customer reviews and certifications as well.
OVERPREPARE
It is kind of a running theme, I know, but it bears repeating. Check everything—especially things like the size of door frames, hallways, and staircases. Some things are not going to make it through those passages no matter how well you pack it!
ISOLATE DANGEROUS MATERIALS
If you must bring dangerous materials with you on your move, make sure that you separate them into their own secure container and clearly label it. Often these are cleaning supplies that are not necessarily dangerous on their own, but you would not want to mistake a bottle of distilled vinegar, for example, for a bottle of bleach. This could be bad for your laundry, but also risky for your personal health, as well.
