If your business is considering introducing workwear instead of a dress code for employees, you will want to for something that represents your business well, but that your staff will feel comfortable in and so the process of choosing can be a big task.
There are some real benefits to custom workwear when it is done well, so we thought we would put together this quick guide to help you through the process if you are considering it for your business.
Think about what your employees do
One very important thing to consider when choosing custom workwear, is what exactly it is that your employees do, which will depend on the industry you work in.
We spoke to Stitch Embroidery who told us “what your business does and the work that your employees carry out will hugely impact the workwear that you choose. If your workforce works in a dirty environment, or complete a lot of tasks that are labour intensive where their clothing can be damaged easier, then you will not want to invest in expensive workwear.
If, however, your employees spend their days in a clean environment like an office, you may wish to invest in some higher-quality workwear, which will cost a little more but look a lot smarter.
The most important thing, however, is the comfort and happiness of your employees, as this will ensure productivity levels are not impacted.”
Value the opinions of your employees
Your employees are the ones who will actually be wearing your personalised workwear, so it is important that they are actually happy with what they are wearing day to day. Although the final decision is of course down to you, you should consider the opinions of your workforce.
Get feedback on the type of workwear they think will be best to complete the tasks they complete in their day to day roles efficiently and comfortably, and also get samples of any items of clothing you are considering.
Asking for input from your employees will give you a good insight into which personalised clothing will work best for your business, but it will also show your staff that you value them.
Think about your branding
Your personalised workwear will be a way for people to recognise your business, so make sure that it falls in line with your business’ core brand values. Make sure you keep your branding consistent in terms of colours, slogans and logos.
Having branding that is consistent in all elements of your business will build trust with clients and prospective customers. For this reason, it isn’t recommended that you change your workwear too often, so really take the time to make sure you are happy with it before investing.
Chopping and changing when it comes to branding will make your business appear unstable, as people value consistency. Spend the time refining your options and getting your personalised workwear just right the first time around is well worthwhile! Of course, that isn’t to say that you should never update or refresh your look, but do try to remain consistent as much as possible.
